Next Wave Coaching goes beyond the board to build confident, capable young athletes through structured surf coaching, movement development, mindset tools, and long-term planning.
Our approach is grounded in the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, which means we coach the whole athlete; physically, mentally, and emotionally, based on their age, stage, and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this just surf lessons?
A: Not at all. While surfing is a core part of what we do, this is a comprehensive coaching program focused on your child’s full athletic and personal development. We combine skill training with physical literacy, mindset tools, multi-sport seasonal planning, and ongoing support tailored to your grom’s age and goals.
Q: Is this strictly for surfers?
A: No! While our roots are in surf, the Next Wave approach supports all movement-based athletes; especially those in skate, swim, or multi-sport environments. Our coaching focuses on physical literacy, mindset, and long-term growth, which apply across sports. We’ve worked with groms from a variety of backgrounds, and our methods adapt to fit their individual path.
Q: What’s the difference between this and a surf camp or clinic?
A: Surf camps and lessons are great for quick experiences while our coaching is long-term and personalized. Think of it as having a youth development coach in your corner who knows how to guide both the grom and the family through the ups and downs of sport. We help with everything from movement patterns and mental prep to planning your child’s surf year.
Q: My child already has a local coach—can we still join?
A: Absolutely. We often work alongside in-water coaches to provide structure, accountability, and support beyond the lineup. Our plans complement existing coaching relationships by focusing on performance habits, strength, recovery, mindset, and long-term development.
Q: Do we have to live on Kauai to participate?
A: Nope! We coach athletes locally, remotely, and while traveling. Off-island groms get personalized training plans, virtual check-ins. You’ll receive the same level of support—just adapted to your location.
Q: What sports or levels is this for?
A: Our sweet spot is action sport athletes ages 9–17 and their families. We also create movement plans for parents of young children under the age of 8. We coach beginners looking for structure, competitive groms building consistency, and families who want to support their athlete’s growth the right way.
Q: What if we’re not sure which tier we need?
A: That’s exactly what the consultation is for! We’ll learn more about your grom, walk you through our offerings, and help you choose a plan that fits your goals, schedule, and season.
